ProChile Intendance analyzed and the export sector and employment protection

"The export sector in the metropolitan area has a great importance in employment nationwide. Despite falling to less than 1% of total export companies offer 20% of total jobs and pay 30% of total wages. Another important point is that wages in regional exporting firms are, on average, 40% higher than the national average, "said Director of ProChile, Alicia Frohmann.
Exports last year by the Metropolitan Region accounted for 11% of the national total and represented 26% of non-traditional exports overall.
These exports were made by regional companies 4602 (a total of 8240 companies nationwide), of which 2662 are small and medium enterprises, which sent 4076 products to 169 markets.
The metropolitan area has a base of exporting companies in non-traditional products. In 2008 74% (USD 5824.5 million) of regional shipments were non-traditional exports and 26% (USD 2070.2 million) to the traditional exports remain the most important industrial sector, subsector food and services.

The regional unemployment has increased since the beginning of the current crisis, noting a 9.3% in March, the product of the contraction in demand internationally.
"The regional economy should be able to show more than ever the competitiveness, adaptability and innovation, principles that have made the region a leader in Metropolitan Latin America as a place to do business and generate non-traditional exports," said Intendente regional Igor Garafulic.
To support the export sector of the area, the office of the Metropolitan Region of ProChile has approved funds for projects to promote exports for this year for $ 106,000. Of the total, 48% will be allocated to projects Subsector Services (Engineering, Architecture, Biotechnology, Tourism) and 46% for farming (natural cosmetics, gourmet, fruit, beekeeping, horticulture).
"Today there are for international projects to be agile and be vigilant, because the opportunities are there," said Alicia Frohmann.
Therefore, the work of the Office of the Metropolitan Region of ProChile will focus on identifying and exploiting opportunities in foreign markets, focusing on small businesses and giving regional information collected through the ProChile Commercial Offices in the various markets.
Also strengthen the coordination of efforts and public and private resources aimed at strengthening the export capacity of the region. To do this, it is encouraging the formation of working with exporters and potential exporters of the services sector, gourmet products, natural cosmetics. Add to this the work already underway with emerging exporters, through the Export Coaching.
Finally, enhance the work of the Regional Cluster Exporters (CERs) in the region, inviting the public and private sectors to join the working groups to be established on "Gourmet Products", "Natural Cosmetics" and "Providers metalworking and metal products for mining."
