Blueberry-season comes to an end, reflecting the difficult stage of the sector

The producers had already planned at the start of the 2008/09 season for blueberries that would not be as positive as those of yesteryear ...
Low prices on almost all the time, sued by the crisis and the largest in United States, the main market for Chile, were the difficulties faced shipments during these months.
"It was not campaigning for the clearance of the stocks at the end of the season. But it could have been worse, as the exchange rate for Chile partially offset the difficult season of the Chilean cranberry, "examines the intelligence system of Chilean Fruit Market (SimFruit).
According to figures that are managed, although the volume of domestic exports rose 36% over the period 2007/08 to 41,432 tonnes reaching the United States in abundant supply of blueberries produced in the Southern Hemisphere (Chile increased 40% production and Argentina sent 61% more fruit), played against the price of this product in that market.
Similar scenario for the future
According to the executive director of Agroberries Juan Andres Varela, this year, Chilean exports of cranberries to increased United States 47.29%, reaching a total of 84.18%, while shipments to Europe fell 4.54%, reaching a total participation rate of only 12.62%.
Thus, "the prices were lower than the previous season, especially between November and December, which are production dates, and in December and January, which are the main months of sales," explains executive Agroberries.
Hortifrut export share in the analysis of results, but added that the low values recorded at the beginning of the season, were in a situation influenced "by the industry inexperencia argentina, which affects the onset of Chile."
"In January, prices were lower because there was a concentration on the export volume, the product of weather we had last year and the mixed quality of the offer. For next season, we again have a difficult January," he warns in Hortifrut.
