Private bank undertakes financial aid to improve access to agriculture

Last Friday was the first meeting of the Technical Committee, headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Marigo Hornkohl and the president of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABIF), Hernan Sommerville. Meeting in which the highest representatives of private financial institutions operating in Chile.

During the meeting the president announced the provision of ABIF sector to improve access to financing of the agricultural sector. The objective will be achieved through the development of proposals that can be implemented in the short term.

In the opinion of the Minister of Agriculture, the initiative will serve to exchange information on the crisis currently afflicting farmers. In this regard commented that "this shows that we share the need for a joint effort so that those who today are facing a complex situation, to have the appropriate tools as early as possible."

Meanwhile, Somerville noted that next week will deliver his remarks to advance a diagnosis to assess the access to agricultural financing. The representative of the banking sector added that "the largest placements in agriculture, according to information from the Superintendency of Banks is in the private financial sector." Seizing the opportunity he emphasized the need to make adjustments to instruments of fiscal support, and guarantees Indap Corfo, especially in micro and small entrepreneurs.

The meeting also attended by executives and managers of hazardous and SMEs of the major banking institutions in the country. Representing the MINAGRI also attended by professionals from the Office of Studies and Agricultural Policy (ODEP).
