MINAGRI and CNR highlight investment of $ 110 billion in irrigation over the last three years

An investment of 110 billion pesos in the last three years, which has allowed tech irrigation in 39,500 hectares farm, was the main pillar of the Public Accounts Committee that the National Participatory Irrigation (CNR), a department of the Ministry of Agriculture made today in the town of Ovalle, in the Coquimbo Region.

In a ceremony led by Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, Reinaldo Ruiz, which was held at the Yacht Club in the city north, reviewed the management of the body 2008, which highlighted the improved management of water resources, plus allowance for modernization of irrigation projects with an emphasis on small and medium producers, new programs to strengthen organizational and an important impetus to the construction of medium irrigation works.

The business, whose seal was given by the important participation of irrigators, brought together organizations from around the country, national and regional authorities and business leaders associated with agriculture and irrigation.

On this occasion, the Deputy Ruiz has stated that this public is part of the commitment made by President Michelle Bachelet to keep the public informed about the tasks performed, while allowing a full audit exercise. "And this is precisely what conveys this event, in which we review and analyze what we are doing our various services to promote the development of our agriculture," he explained.

Also, Ruiz said that "our goal is to ensure that Chile is a Power Food and Forestry. In this sense, the National Irrigation Commission is carrying out its work, we will increasingly acércanos this yearning a reality."

Responsible for paying the account was the Executive Secretary of the National Irrigation Commission (CNR), Nelson Pereira, who informed the public of the work that the service performed during the last period between 2006 and 2008, plus the emphasis of management 2009.

In figures, the agency closed the period with more than 2 thousand 400 projects subsidized by Law No. 18,450 to Promote Private Investment in Irrigation and Drainage Works, 58 thousand beneficiaries among 64 small, medium and large agricultural producers and a investment in irrigation over 110 thousand 640 million pesos in the last three years, a figure which the subsidy was 66%.

Of the total of bonuses paid (73 thousand 107), 41% for small producers, which speaks of the growing dynamism in this sector is becoming the national agricultural scene.

In this regard, farmers and authorities highlighted the role played by this institution in the development of the country's water resources, particularly through supporting the promotion of investment to the modernization of irrigation and organizational strengthening.

Other challenges are the theme of this year, the highest authority with regard to institutional noted that "during the 2009 commitments are designed to give the extension and amendment of the Law 18,450, employment generation through the Law of Development, project the implementation of projects aimed at improving water quality, power generation and expanding the regional coverage of the CNR, "said Pereira.

Participation
Another objective of this activity was to provide a space for irrigators to accommodate the concerns of their daily work. In this regard Pereira said that "although we realize the ongoing management work we do, this activity is framed specifically in the Pro Calendar Citizen Participation, led by President Michelle Bachelet," he said.

The director of the NRC has stated that the Public Participation involves an expanded meeting with the idea of creating space for the public to hear, see and analyze the details of the actions the NRC has developed during 2008.
